Black History Month Banners
This project was assigned at the same time as the banners for Dr. King, and given the significance of Black History Month in my city, I knew I had to create something that truly honored the community. From the start, I knew the illustrations had to align with the style of the Dr. King banners, but this one took a lot more brainstorming because, honestly, I had no idea where to begin. Then, one day, the idea came to me: I would feature five prominent figures whose initials spelled out the word 'BLACK.' After doing some research, I decided on the following individuals:Barack Obama
Langston Hughes
Aretha Franklin
Carter G. Woodson
Katherine JohnsonSoon enough, I began illustrating busts of the figures I had selected. I kept the same vector style as the previous project and used warm colors to reflect the warmth the city has shown me. To this day, I’m really proud of the results.

Once the illustrations were finished, all that was left was to design the rest of the banners. I chose a geometric typography to spell out 'BLACK,' incorporating each figure into their respective letter. The rest of the design process came together smoothly.

These banners were also approved and installed along Evergreen Road. I hope you like.
